I reconnected with Mark Bansner today. I had an in depth discussion with him about his new stocks and their fabrication.
I was most interested in the construction and materials used in his stocks. I believe these new offerings are the finest synthetic stock being made. Mark has taken advantage of advances in manufacturing (CNC machining) and in materials science to produce the best stocks made in the US. Bold assertion I know.
He makes a svelte well shaped hunting sporter. Many on this forum bemoan the difficulty in getting a Legend stock for either a M70 or 700. Y’all may want to take a look at the David Miller Classic design which is now available for both M70 and 700 actions.

I have a couple of his Miller pattern stocks and they are very nice. I chose them over a Legend because of their lighter weight but I wish they had checkering like the Legends have. If they were both the same weight I’d take a Legend hands down as I consider it the best looking and feeling glass/kevlar stock for a 70 Sporter.
My GS recommends the Bansner first when I talk about stocking a rifle for hunting. He builds enough rifles for people that I'd just say "whatever you decide, I'll be happy with it." When I figure out what I want to build on my HVA action, I'll be using the Bansner stock he recommends.

Have you put your hands on one or are you basing your opinion on the conversation?
I finished up one of Mr. Bansner's Sheep Hunter stocks (newer production) for a long action 700 a while back. It turned out very nice. I'd finished several in the past and the recent production model did seem quicker to finish. I liked it so much I ordered one for a short action but I haven't gotten around to starting on it yet.
Just checked and I noticed he is producing M7 stocks again. Like I need another project...
It’s about time that someone build a quality synthetic for the Model 70’s.
My McMillan Classic is 34 years old, and has been great. I wish they still made it! memtb
