Couldn’t you just hook the chain around the tree and accomplish the same thing? I saw the Arizona highway dept. using propane torches to grub the roadsides. That seemed efficient, as long as it didn’t get away from them.

Couldn’t you just hook the chain around the tree and accomplish the same thing? I saw the Arizona highway dept. using propane torches to grub the roadsides. That seemed efficient, as long as it didn’t get away from them. Yes We pulled a gazillion 6” locust trees down with a logging chain and a 78 Dodge Power Wagon

Yes We pulled a gazillion 6” locust trees down with a logging chain and a 78 Dodge Power Wagon I’ve found that on the more brushy stuff you have to go around the base twice with the chain, even then, on some of the more limber stuff the chain wants to ride up stripping and peeling everything off without jerking the roots out of the ground.

Like yaupon? I don't cut or pull up any of mine. I'll get a big paper grocery sack full every now and then and dry it. If I were more energetic about it, i could probably make a few dollars selling it. The yuppies sell packaged and ground for 20 some odd a pound

Yeah, it would get slippery once you show coed the bark off the tree.
