This vintage (Western Knife Company) Boy Scout knife was priced at $129.99, and I offered $75.00. The seller accepted the offer.

Similar thing happened to me on a recent Case knife purchase. It really pays to give a low ball offer. Some people just want to move their stuff.

If he had it priced at $7899.87....would you still consider what you did "lowballing"?

15 bucks, max, and I'd think I got scammed if the bid was accepted!

I researched typical asking prices for about an hour before I saw that one. Unless you're suggesting that everyone there is asking nearly twice what the market will bear.

Irregardless, the principle expressed in the title of this thread would appear to hold up.

And, yes, irregardless has been an accepted word in the English language for 200 years.

That is my first knife my Father gave me when I was eight or so. I still have it and it is little used since I soon after bought a G96 Buck 110 copy. Memories.

You might find one like it at garage sale for $15.00, but that seller likely has no idea what they're going for. It would just be luck on your part.

I lost one in the middle of the bayou just like it, IIRC I paid 9.00 for it and a boycott survival knife with the spoon and fork on it.

In an "actual" reality....it's called making a reasonable offer.

I suspect that some of you are thinking in terms of mere usefulness, rather than rarity, quality, brand, and condition.

That company, for example, hasn't been in existence since about the middle 1980s, at which point the name was sold to Coleman, and a few years later to Camillus. Then Camillus went under due to cheap imports flooding the US market. The original company (Western of Boulder, Colorado) ain't making them anymore, least of all with authorized Boy Scout insignia.

No. That would have been nice, though. That's why I low balled him to that degree. If it had the original sheath, it would likely be a good bit more.

It looks to be in decent condition. Those things have become quite collectible and therefore bring in decent money. I was at a flea market two weeks ago and saw a US made Old Timer folding knife in very questionable condition, price $65. I was thinking $25 maximum so I didn’t even try bartering. I just walked away.

Clean it up and gut a deer or two with it. I still prefer the classics.
