Wanting a 300wsm, either going to be a model 70 or browning A/X bolt. Wondering which action the WSM cartridges work out better in or if there’s really any difference? Thank you!

The model 70 yields a 3” box; no idea on the browning.

Lot's of good deals out there on M70 300 WSM's, that's the direction I'd go.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Need to get a scope up on it and see what it does. I'd vote 70 as well. Have a 270, 7, 325 WSM and they all have good mags that allow some flexibility in OAL.

The Montucky box is 3+” and far away THE softest shooting. Hint.
The others are Dog Schit in comparison. Hint.
Just sayin’………….

Own 2 X Bolts in 300 WSM. Excellent rifles. Accurate and never had any feeding issues. My M70s are standard short and long actions calibers so I can't comment on how they feed the WSMs, I would assume fine though since they are both of Winchester design.
Take your pic on model based on desired features or design. Can't really go wrong with either.

I’m sure either would serve you well. Were it my decision I’d go with the m70. I had a stainless classic m70 some years ago, also in 300wsm, and it performed as expected.

I'd also consider the weight aspect. X bolts and A Bolts are lighter than a M70, so if you want a light rifle that would be an advantage. On the other hand, .300 magnums have a fair amount of recoil, so a little extra weight might not be a bad thing.

I really like Model 70's, I'm fairly biased towards them. I do like Browning though, I was fairly pleased with the A/X bolt when I handled them. The AB3 is the cheaper, watered down version though. I feel like it would be a step backwards from the 70. The straight A-Bolt or X-Bolt would be a more competitive decision. Personally I'd just figure out whats going on with your current rifle, I've never had light strike problems with mine.

The Browning(s) are piles of fhuqking schit,in comparison. Hint.
The Winny is heavy and ungainly, while magnifying felt recoil nicely. Winchester struggles mightily with stock ergonomics/quality. Hint.
The Montucky Whizzums are fhuqking exceptional in all regards. It is a treat to shoot them side by each. Hint.
Just sayin’………….

I am a big fan of the Kimber Montana in 300WSM. It is just about perfect for chasing elk in the Rocky Mountains. Unfortunately, that rifle has been out of production for many years, and they are now hard to find.
That being said, I am also a big fan of the M70 as well as the Browning X-Bolt. Choose the M70 if you want CRF. Choose the X-bolt if you like the 3-lug design with its reduced bolt lift and consequent better scope clearance.

The Kimber 8400 Action was designed for the WSM cartridge is my understanding. I have one Montana in 300 wsm but just started shooting it. I have a couple of Brownings in .325 WSM and 1 in 7 WSM. They all seem to work alright. The Montana is a pretty nice set up... just saying.
Several WSM Tikka rifles in the Cabelas use gun library online. Some are a fair deal. Some good Tikka deals there as well.
