So sayeth Frank Kendall, Secretary of the Air Force.

Sure seems like it’s gonna put a bunch of pilots and would-be pilots out of a job.

Do we have the funds for a massive fleet of F-16s, robot-flown or not?

G-forces that can black out a pilot will no longer be a concern. Interesting. Stunt planes.

Given the F16 is "fly by wire", all that is required is to replace "what" provides the input to the wires. Computers get cheaper every day. This also negates the question "Would USAF pilots be willing to attack US citizens?"

Is anyone considering the possibility that the govt wouldn't have to worry about autonomous military equipment NOT following orders to fire in American citizens?

If ordered to fire on fellow citizens, AI would follow those directives to the letter. A human pilot may not, and even worse, become a problem to those who issue such orders.

This is the first thing that comes to my mind.

You still need people to maintain those planes though. A few thousand Palestinians and Aghans could assist in that matter. For a little while anyway.

Jet fighters fly fast so can only be over target area short time ..WORSE yet .is when they have AI control without humans helocopter gun ships and tanks and other armoured vehicles .They can control or shoot humans at will for a long period of time .And like has been said They wont have too worry about chopper and tank crews refusing to shoot American citizens. And they can hold and control ground

I'm sure they will be hackable,or a beetle or some other insect will find its contents delectably delicious and take out a 400 million dollar aircraft. That will cost a bil or two by then.

I did a tour of the Monthan bone yard about 4 years ago. We were told back then that the F16s were being retrofitted as drones with the intentions of being shot down by new missiles that were being tested. It appears they have a new function as remote controlled fighters.

That makes about as much sense to me as paying off student loans or driverless EV’s. We’re spending billions on nonsense and loosing. Our “glide Bombs” had to be decommissioned because their success rate was 6%.
We’re not only allowing but helping the world to invade us and arresting innocent citizens while supporting global genocide.

All those AI vehicles still need mechanics, weapons loaders, fuelers, spare parts, logistics support etc.
