Doesn't someone make an 85 grain partition as well?

Hadn't shot my LVSF 243 in a while, so yesterday I loaded up some R-P cases with 49 grains of W760 and a 58 grain VMax, and shot it some. Made me wonder why I ever use anything else to hunt coyotes with.

H4831SC setting under 100gr SGK gives great accuracy and knocks the snot outa deer .
Shoots under .5” pretty consistent in 1/10 twist 700 and .75” in 1/8 .
Same powder under 107 SMK in 1/8 shoots bug hole in the teens .
105A-max , same powder , .5”
Didn’t get to far on load development for A-max , ran out of bullets .
Not factory barrel .
As said 70gr TNT is very accurate too , don’t recall powder right now , been using 222 and 17HMR for groundhogs.

Then no need for me to respond this year then....

my next scheduled response should be in 2029... If I am still alive in 2029....

Been working up a load this week for the same rifle for deer season at the end of the month here...

Same rifle.. 38 grains of 4064 again and a 90 grain Ballistic Tip...

have been out this week, over at the range.. with a different scope... Bushnell Banner with a 5 aiming point reticle...

Off the bench on 9 X, was ringing steel with 15 rounds I had loaded up with 87 gr BTHP from Hornady...

300, 400, 500 and 550 yds .. bang clang...should be good to go it seems...again..

Nothing wrong with revived old threads in my book. New powders, new bullets come out and are added with results, plus a lot of data is captured in one place.

Love the 243 BTW. My last load is 55 gr. Hammer Hunters and 760. Lead free, accurate and scary fast. 4000+ fps. Great for coyote whacking and stackin.

This is an old thread, but I'll share a load I developed for 2 different rifles. First rifle I tried it in is a Winchester model 70 classic compact:

Then later I tested that load in my new to me Sako A2:

The reason I chose that bullet (Hornady 100gr btsp Interlock) is because I've seen how well it works on deer, and they are also less than $25/box. The last ones cost me $21/box when Scheels had a sale on reloading components last year. That load easily shoots sub .8 moa at 100 yards for 5 shots, and performs very well out to 500 yards.

Nice shooting BSA !

I have used that same 100 grain hornady myself on a deer. It worked extremely well.

I load for 3 .243's.

Two Remington 700's both made in the 1970's. Both of them grouped ok...1 3/4 for the oldest one. 1 1/2 for the "newer" of the two.

The third is a Savage Stevens 200 that did way better in the .630's.

Powder is IMR 7383 military pull down for .50 Spotter tracer.

I suspect the twist rate of the older remingtons has something to do with it. Because when I ran Speer 85 grain BTSP's in all three they all grouped under 3/4 at 100 yds.

Love the .243

At one time Rem. catered to the heavier bullets and thus different twist and later on switched to accommodate the lighter bullets.

I don't believe that's the story.

Mathman, on the Rem 700, didn't they start with a 1 in 10", then they had a 1 in 9, 1 in 9.125, and then a 1 in 9.250" twist rate? Seems like they were all over the place with them. Then about a year ago, I believe they started using a 1 in 8" TR for the 243 win.

In 6mm bores Remington started with (I believe) 1:12" for the 244 Remington. When they figured out that was dumb and tightened it to 9 whatever for the 6mm Remington I think they just went ahead and used that for the 243 when they chambered it.

Whatever they started with for the 243, I don't think they did what TA 17 said and slowed the twist at a later time.
