Curious as to what you all prefer on a carbine that you'd like to keep as light and handy and fast to use as possible?

Actually I really liked my fixed 2 3/4x on my old 308 but on my 260 I have a 2-7x that's doing pretty well!

On my carbine 7600 the lightest and fastest has been a fixed 2x pistol scope on a scout mount. My favorite is the Leupold 1.5-5x Scout VXR illuminated which isn't too much heavier. But, the package is getting heavier than I want when it's scoped. It's about perfect with irons. My present light and fast woods gun isn't a carbine but, scoped it weighs about what the 7600 does without a scope. These guys are right - a conventionally mounted 2-7 is about perfection. Just make sure your stock fits you. I really like 2x on the bottom end. I've come to like illumination a lot. An illuminated dot at the aiming point. I've got a 2-7 Sig Whiskey3 illuminated duplex that's awesome. Also, been playing with a Whiskey3 non-illuminated ballistic plex 2-7. The reticle has extremely thick crosshair posts like a #4 with thinner crosshairs in the center. I almost like it better than illumination. The Leupold 2-7 is good and so is the Burris FF2 2-7. I'd like to try the newer Hawke 2-7 illuminated.

I’m admittedly old school. A fixed 4X would be fine.

Yep. Get an older one and you'll probably be happy.

I have 4X, 1.75-6X, 2-7X, and 2.5-8X that are on my most used hunting rifles. Have higher power on "stand" guns, but not on "carry" guns.

I have several and like them. The scope on my 375 H&H is a Leupold 3X Big Bore with heavy duplex. I’ve taken animals at 200-250 yards without thinking I needed a different scope. Good luck!

I have this on my coyote carbine: 1" tube, 13.4 oz, 3-9 x 40 Trijicon Accupoint with green triangle post set on 3X. The open area around the triangle is fantastic for running animals.
I suppose a 1-6 accupoint with same reticle would be a bit faster but it is a 30mm tube at 19.2 oz

Bar none, the best platform I have ever seen is my Winchester 94 in .30WCF. I removed the rear ladder sight and installed a Turnbull base for a Burris FFIII. Literally twice as fast and twice and just as accurate out to as far as I have shot it - about 200 yards. This is my truck/walking gun. Best I have ever seen. That Red dot is just stupid fast - and everyone who has ever sen it agrees.
I am contemplating doing the same thing to a couple of Ruger .44 Carbines.

A Ruger 44 carbine is why this has my attention. I was thinking (and 1x electronic sights) a red dot over a scope .

My Ruger 44 Mag carbine wears a Vari-X III 1.5-5X. My Browning M71 wears a Fastfire III. My 35 Rem M336 wears a 2-7X Burris FF-II and my 32-20 M1894 wears a Japanese Weaver 2-7X. I'm pleased with all of them.

Handled a styer scout .308 with a 2.5 fx leupy yesterday in a LGS. Seemed like nice setup for close timber scenarios.
