Got the bug and thinking about buying one of these in the Trail edition.

Ever since they have been imported they have a huge following of loyal buyers. They last forever and are easy to work on. When I retire in 2-3 years it will be my vehicle of choice. Might not be the roomiest, or the most economical but they are built to last.

IMO, the best of SUVs....I switched to Toyotas in 98 and am very satisfied....currently running a Taco and 4Runner....my 98 T100 is still running great with 300K on the odometer after I sold it to a neighbor......

Don't know about the 10's, but the older ones seem decent. I know several with them from the 90's - about 2008. They all like them.

We test drove one last year for my wife, and she didn't like it, because it felt like a truck to her, which may be the reason I liked it. It was built like a Tacoma.

I had a '96 for 11 years (traded it in on a Tundra) and never had a problem. It did have two recalls (head gasket and rear springs) during that time. Neither of which were mandated by the feds nor had given me any issues. It really is a truck that is an SUV other than a car that is an SUV. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

FWIW, I have a 2009 tacoma and hate it.

For love nor money I wouldn't buy another.

It does nothing well and lots of things really poorly.

He covered tis question already when asked by me. It's in another thread down a little ways. My wife has a 4 Runner and we both love it.

I had a 98 runner go 145,000 and easily sold it when I bought my Tundra. My 2003 v8 runner has been absolutely rock solid for 108,000. I'd take it anywhere. I'd think the new runners would be a very safe bet.

J,

4Runners are one of my favorites.....a very solid, dependable vehicle....hit a moose with my 05....was about to buy a new one but instead bought an 05 for half ...only 30K miles.....then bought an 03 Taco 4 cylinder with 40K miles and put $10K back in my pocket.... now I'm ready for another moose to step out....

Very nice! I've got 96k on my 04. I miss a full size truck sometimes, but my 4runner does 95% of what I need it to do, and it sure is easier to bum around town in.

Good Luck on your Toyota! Many out there now are wishing they purchased something else instead. Lots of horror stories and now Toyota is trying hard to weather the storm from their lack of quality control and mistakes.

The problem vehicles were not 4Runners unless I missed something. I have an 05 which still runs like the day I bought it. It has been, by far, the single best vehicle I have EVER owned. No contest. My last American SUV, by contrast, had to have the engine replaced at 32,000 miles. That ripped it for me and led to the 4Runner purchase.

Right now, I would NOT touch a Toyota with a 10-foot pole~!
