Oh well then guys.
I will make a stick bow and some arrows then go hunting. Just head out with a boot lace or take a bow string.

If the 223 works for deer under ideal conditions, ie, shot placement, shot placement, shot placement. Then I dont know why it shouldnt make a good cougar gun out to about 250 yards? 65 grain Siera Game King? 70 grain soft point?
Have to be OUT THERE!

I plan on using my service rifle when I join the Army. I might be stationed in Alabama and would want something to do on weekend leave. Wow guy, how'd you make it to nearly 400 posts dropping gems like this one? In all seriousness this isn't going to happen. Plan on purchasing your own rifle if you plan on hunting. Also, don't plan on getting any particular duty station in say, any location you'd like - the Army will probably give you a startling surprise when you get your first set of orders, at least that was my experience.

There's some good hunting on more than one military installation. Be sure you take full advantage of it. Good for you wanting to sign on to begin with. But I'd re-think that Army schit... Travis

Travis Roger that, I just looked at his picture. To clarify - Winnie your decision to join the Army is a commendable one.

I've used 70gr Speers in my 22/250 for deer with good results. They aren't hard stabilize as they are semi spitzer. I shot this deer with a 70gr a few years ago on Remembrance Day.

Heres the latest...223AI 53 gr TSX.. From Back in the Day....IIRC .223 60 Gr. Horn. Ingwe Ingwe, What kind of gun is that? I'm considering a .223 that doesn't weigh a ton (I've got a Volquartsen that probably goes 13.5 with scope and a worked over Mini-14 that can't bee too far behind)to start my little girls.

How fast do you push those 53s to be comfortable they will open up?
Before getting a chrony I had a scary accurate load that was about 2900 out of my little CZ 527 with H322. I switched to RL 15 and now am getting 3200 with 27g. Accuracy is still sub MOA, and probably would be better if I could seat the bullet deeper; RL 15 fills the case pretty well. This load prints right with my groundhog load of 50g V-maxs. Just curious as to the acceptable window for this bullet as everyone advocates pushing the TSXs FAST

The faster the better, my 223AI is shoving them out at 3400fps..Barnes maintains with the TSX alloy that they will open reliably( but not completely) down to 1700 fps... At your 2900 fps level I wouldnt worry about a thing till you get past 200-250 yds...... I got a perfectly expanded specimen of a 53 grainer out of a doe I shot with a standard .223 at an even 200 yds, complete penetration...picture book boolit...and I lost it of course.. My pards daughter just killed her first deer with a .222 and a 45 gr TSX at about that speed...nice big dude too! ingwe

Cool. That's what I thought, and the reason I changed powders (faster) after getting the chrony. I guess my MOA 3200fps load will be just fine then. I figured it would make a nice fur load for coyotes or bigger stuff if I take it out of the state.

It can make a good fur load, but be aware it doesnt expend energy like a c-n-c or varmint bullet, Ive had coyotes run a bit with a TSX drill hole in them... they always died though.... Ingwe

You guys......
I was gonna take my 25-284 this evening, but now I gotta carry the 223AI. Maybe I can catch another 62TSX, but it's not likely.
Now with even more aplomb
