I know next to nothing about lever guns.
Does Marlin make or did they ever make a rifle in a pistol caliber like .44 Mag. with a pistol grip stock?

They made two
1894pg - 44 mag 1894fg - 41 mag
the 41 is harder to find and worth normally 25% more than the 44. It took a while to find but I found a PG on GB for 450 I think. That was 6-8 months ago.

You'll find other variations, like: http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=121829Both my lever guns (.22LR & .30-30) were chosen for their pistol grip design. But I also like the straight-grip stocks, like the Winchester '94, which I have owned, and wouldn't hesitate to buy one, if I suddenly decided that I had to have yet another lever gun. However, if I were to buy one in a big bore caliber I would prefer a pistol grip.
