I been using 2 Pyrodex 50 Gr pellets for years. Will shoot with Hornady 250 SST at 50 yds a 3/4" group. 100 yds a little different mostly 2" to 2 1/2 groups. I would love to go to a Powder which can be measured. I have read till I.m blue in the face about all powders and still am not certain. Black horn, Tripple 7,Pyrodex. Ok from your experience rain, snow, accurcy which is your powder please tell me why,
Thank You

Throw those pellets away and get you some loose Pyrodex RS, it has worked for me every time for the last 25 years and I've hunted in the rain, snow and heat.

I don't have much experience but thus far I'm liking the Triple Seven Powder! Easy clean up, good velocity, and it is accurate with the first bullet I have tried in it. I shot three shots touching at 50 yards with a TC shockwaves 250 grain with the black sabot. If my rifle (CVA) didn't require a different breech plug for Blackhorn I would be tempted to try that?
I think you will see a big difference in "any" loose powder versus the pellets. Pellets are convenient but loose powder is the way to go! Triple 7 (T7) comes in two types; I use the FFFG powder for a 50 caliber.

Well we're Green and we're Gold, and we play better when it's cold. All us Cheese heads have our favorite superstar. We love Brett Favre.

I'm still breaking in my .50 cal percussion Deerstalker, and have been using Pyrodex P/RS as I don't care for it. But it's been giving me fair groups without having worked on accuracy. Most have been under 2" groups at 50 yds with poor eyesight (I need glasses) using .490" RB's, 0.015" patches and grape seed oil with 70 grns of powder.
Since my Old Army has a much more limited powder capacity, and may be my backup for hogs or black bears, I want a more energetic powder, and intend on stocking/carrying afield 1 powder, which will either be (3F) Triple 7 or Olde Eynsford, though I'd consider Swiss as well.
If I could set off Blackhorn with a Rem #10 percussion cap reliably I'd try it too. I'm considering buying some and trying a duplex load, but that defeats my desire to stock/carry 1 powder for convenience.
I would certainly drop the pellets for loose powder as you can certainly tailor the accuracy and performance, not to mention reduce the cost.

ok BH209 will not work in the sidekick due to the breech plug design. T7 will work fine though, just clean between shots.

I purchased a New Breach plug that was tested for Blackhorn. It never failed . I learned through H&S Muzzleloading forum. I appreciate your concern. You just have to use a shot gun primer, CCI Mag primer, Winchester 209 shotgun primer. Lets say Black horn will work.

T7 3F is smaller grain so it is easier to set off from what I have been told. So for a sidelock I think it would be ideal?
