Just bought one, and seeking some direction. Obviously ill be doing some more reading before I get started, but does anybody have suggestions on a load(smokeless)? What kind of accuracy are you seeing?

This is one of the loads that works well for me in my Savage 10ML-II 50 Cal.

Hornady FTX 45cal. (.458) 325gr. semi-spitzer (Product SKU: 45015)
MMP Orange HPH Sabot
Winchester W209 primer
44gr. of Accurate 5744

This target was shot at 100yds using the above load.

What is Dave's message board?

Here is what the Savage I've worked with can do:

Not sure how but I did the math wrong, that group is actually .522MOA

I shoot a NULA M209 with lots of other bullets and powders but the load you see above is a standard for the ML-II.

Yes, that is a factory barreled action that was pillar bedded in a factory laminate stock.

I have yet to find a bullet in the 300 grain range over 44 grains of 5744 that mine won't shoot into the 1/2 inch range. I finally settled on Barnes 290 tipped in MMP high pressure sabots with the fore mentioned powder at 1950 fps. Great on whitetails and easy on recoil. I am sighted in at at 150 yards. With a upper third of the body hold on a deer from zero to 250 yards dead deer.

Yes, mine also still has the factory barrel and the action was pillar bedded but I used a aftermarket stock because it came with plastic for the factory.
I had another plastic stocked ML-II that shot just as tight right out of the box using the same load but 300gr BO's instead of the 325gr FTX's.

Mines nothing fancy. Just a SS laminate with a simple bedding job. Factory barrel but IMO a really good one compared to some ive seen.

63gr of Reloder7 or 56-60gr of N120 with a variety of 300gr bullets shoots well in mine. 458s usually shoot better than .452s but not always. Getting a good sabot to bore fit is the most important thing and let the barrel cool between shots.

60gr N120 and a 325gr FTX in a MMP Orange is one of the best shooters in mine but it is a little bit brisk. Not bad but you know you pulled the trigger. laugh

Im not a big fan of the "book powders" but they do just fine for many people.

I tailor specifically to smokeless mz's. I offer 10 packs of commonly used bullets and sabots, so you don't have to break the bank to find a load that shoots.

As others have said, the 458cal bullets really do well. If I get one chance to try to get a guys Savage to shoot, I go with the 300gr Barnes Original SSSP (.458") with Harvester Black Crush Rib.
