I finally went back to hunting with a muzzleloader after 30 years of shotgun and hand guns for deer. I had shot a few deer with traditional muzzleloaders years ago and picked up an inline last summer. Spent the fall trying to figure load and bullet that grouped the best, after trying a lot of cast bullets and sabots ended up settling on a 270gr Powerbelt and 100 grs of BH209 for this year. A couple in our group pushed this buck up to within 60 yards of me, walking on three legs. After recovering the deer I found one rear leg was broken at the knee and other wasnt in good shape. Looked like it survived a hit from a car and it wasnt going to make the winter. The Powerbelt did the job, it wandered 30 yards before going down in a pile. The remainder of the Powerbelt was recovered under the offside hide. Remaining slug weighed 115 grs and was .87 inch in diameter. Everything functioned great in the 6 degree weather except the camera, so took pics after butchering.

Can't complain about the bullet. Might have retained a bit more weight with 80-90 gr of powder, but the deer wouldn't be any deader.

Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a hunting license and that's pretty close.

Thanks for the comments. I like the Traditions so far, no problems and good accuracy. Its my first inline so not much to compare it to yet. BTW used Federal 209A Shotshell primers. I will be giving it another go late muzzleloader season Dec 23 thru Jan 10th.
