It's a bit early for morels in Southern Wisco We need some sun, and warmer rain for the fun to start. Here's a patch near a dead elm tree that used to produce real good. Thinking about killing a couple of elms nearby just to see if it can be this good again. On a southern exposure hill side, 1000ft ele.

Great pic. Love walking up on a patch like that.
I swear, when I'm turkey hunting in SE MN I enjoy hunting for morels just as much.
Gonna be late this year.

If you want to share the location of these, I'll be more than happy to guard them for you. donsm70

Can't figure how you photoshopped that but it has to be. Absloutely no small patch of ground could hold that many Morels. That is a property to be treasured and GUARDED. When I lived in Ohio that would cause fights. When I lived in Ohio we owned 15 acres of woodlands that was loaded with Morels. One day we drove up and parked behind this car to do some Morel gathering. This couple was just coming from the woods with two large brown grocery bags. The woman said 'this place is loaded with Morels, there are plenty more'. I replied that we didn't know that when we bought the place. They were parked directly in front of a properly posted 'no trespassing' sign. They just got in their car and left. They never even offered us any of our own mushrooms. We did harvest plenty though. I really miss them as that was the only mushroom I felt comfortable picking.Sauteed in butter with scrambled eggs is hard to beat.

We need some heat! Our 10 day forecast show's the warmest night to be 42 degrees. That won't do it.

When you hit the Motherlode it is fun,son in law picked 147 took five steps picked 153 more.I kept the dryer going for 17 days straight.I would leave for two and a half hours and be back with two large grocery bags full of just caps, left all the stems in the slash.Biggest was 14.5 oz,three morels was 31 oz.that was a banner year.I shoot for at least 30 lbs.a year for our use.One pod had 17 in it.

No shrooms yet. About 12-14 years ago I burned an old stump out and the following spring when I mowed I picked up a big walmart bag of morrels up in a spot no bigger than a 10x10 around where that stump had been. They never came back.

I still have eight quarts in the freezer from last year. Guess I better get busy making room for this year's crop...
If it has whipped cream and chocolate drizzles on it, it’s dessert. Grow up and get a coffee damnit
