Doing it right will require setting the barrel back. I'm not a 77 guy, but I believe that will require clocking it so the extractor cut will line up, and then it may also require deepening. Not quite as simple as a redo on a 700.
Is it pretty accurate now? Do you want to invest the money for the work in an early 77 barrel?

I've had two, one a Ruger 77 tang safety UltraLight and the other in a Remington 700. It's a good cartridge and works well on game. You get more velocity, but I can't say it kills any better than the standard .250.
If it's worth the trouble, do it. I must admit, it's fun working with improved and wildcat cartridges, but I'm over it.

No extractor cut.Just has to be turned in a little to headspace, unless the barrel has open sight's,then one full turn.

In a sample size of 1, I had a tang safety 77 RSI in 250AI, but could never get it to feed, so I got another 250-3000 barrel from Ruger and rechambered it to 25 Souper. Feeds fine, gets the same results, and 243 brass is easy to find, easy to convert to 25 Souper, and in most cases inexpensive.

A friend did one in a Ruger and it turned out to be nothing but a PIA. No big advantage over the std 250 Savage. I would not do this to my 250 Savage for anything.

I've never had a feeding issue with my pair and the gain is substantial.

Scott,
Have you used any varmint type bullets with yours? I have a strange itch to scratch. I want to send the 90 gr Sierra Blitz King as quick as I could in a SA. I have been looking to build a 25-308 and use Lapua 308 Palma brass. Some reports are giving speeds at 3300-3500. Thanks

Not much, though my typical hunting load is an 85gr Barnes at 3350fps.
I do use the 90's for fireforming.

What are you guys running for bbl length on your AI's? I'm leaning more and more towards building one myself. I have a stripped Mod 7 action and a really light contour McGowen 257 barrel at 19".

Mine is 23in Shilen on a Mauser action. Feeds as slick as butter. I use the old 90gr X at 3250. Kills everything...big hogs, varmits, deer and anything else I point it at. powdr

Mine is an old Ruger tang UL rebarreled with a 21" tube done 20 years ago. Zero feeding/extracting issues and very accurate. Barrel was a 25-06 take off.
