I've always been reluctant to carry a snubbie because I've seen the .38 Special turn in less than stellar performances just too many time to allow me to be very comfortable carrying one.. A year or so ago I picked up one of the Ruger LCRs in 9mm and have been trying to find some ammo that would perform. Just happened across this video of the Ruger ARX ammo and was wonder if anyone here is carrying it...looks like it will work better than a HP that may not expand from a short barrel revolver... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryDTmVdSU8kBob

I had not seen any reviews of that ammunition, and really don't know much about it. I have never had much faith in very light weight bullets for SD. The results on the video look encouraging. Looks spendy, but not way out of line with other offerings. For the time being, I am sticking with my hand loaded .38 Special stuff. 140 grain Sierra over Blue Dot powder. Sure don't get 1300+ fps, but it works well on coons and armadillos.

For those who do not load your own there is Underwood Extreme Penetrator ammo and Buffalo Bore +p ammo. But you are not going to find it at Wal Mart for 12 bucks a box, so get over it. There are video's of all of that on You Tube. FIND THEM. Or not.

This site has been posted before, but they have just tested the ammo RJM is asking about. The reviews are well done, consistent, and unbiased. http://mousegunaddict.blogspot.com/p/ammo-tests.html
America needs to understand that our troops are not 'disposable'. Each represents a family; Fathers, Mothers, Sons, Daughters, Cousins, Uncles, Aunts... Our Citizens are our most valuable treasure; we waste far too many.

There's no shortage of 9mm P. that will expand from a three inch LCP- It's plenty of gun.
If I would carry a 38 snub, it's 148gr. Wad cutters for me.
Low kick, hardly a flash and nice clean holes through the target.

Swapped the M36 I've carried for well over 25 years, for a Charter Arms Pitbull in 40 S&W. Never doubted the M36 and Hornady 125gr HPs, but the 40 is "a tad more gun".
Marginally larger/heavier than the M36 and not a problem to handle with 180gr Hydra Shoks in the cylinder.
If three or more people think you're a dimwit, chances are at least one of them is right.

Not sure a 38 would push an expanded hp through the target.

Check out ( tnoutdoors9) on YouTube, He does gel test with various 38 special ammo. Some impressive results for little snubbies.I personally carry Speer gold dot 135 grain+P.

Not sure a 38 would push an expanded hp through the target. Using the equivalent of the "FBI Load", I have no doubt of an exit hole in a thin skinned target. Don
