The best gig here is being a firefighter. I wouldn't want to do it in a big city like NYC, but here, I know guys who went their entire career and never went to a real fire, other than some dumbass who burned up his stove with too much grease.
Some truth there. More than pay, fire unions really push for more time off. They say it is to spend time with their families, which may be true enough, but the big reason is to work at another job, in some cases owning a very profitable business.
I've thought that if I were a young dude, I might become a firefighter, use my time off to get a degree (maybe study on the job), and then an advanced degree like law or a CPA, then use my time off to open a practice. Little overhead, as you'd have insurance and a retirement guaranteed. Retire from the fire department as soon as eligible, then have another decade or so to practice your profession.

That would be a great plan. The other big perk is that the guys here work a 24 hour shift and get 2-3 days off. And if they swap duty days with a friend, they can get 4-5 days off in a row. Pretty nice if you are into camping, hunting or doing multi day trips. They like to whine about having to be there for 24 hours, but give them schitt and ask them if they would rather sit off the coast of Iraq for 4 months at a time like I did. They usually shut up and feel good about their situation then.

At one point in my life I used to go to breakfast with the police chief where I lived at the time. He actually started out as a firefighter, then after about a year became a cop.
I told him that was proof positive that he wasn't very smart. He was a really good guy, though.

Pretty smart to get two different retirements.
Lots of cops do that.
The degree of my privacy is no business of yours.
What we've learned from history is that we haven't learned from it.
The guy I mentioned was a firefighter for just about a year, so wouldn't have a retirement from that gig. However, another good plan is for a cop to achieve command rank, say captain, retire as soon as eligible, then go to another state and become chief of a smaller dept. Set up for two pensions, nice double dip. I've known a few who have done that.
They say you can't get rich being in the police or fire service, but the opportunity is there for somebody who is smart and ambitious.
There's a retired NYC firefighter who shoots at our range. He sure has some nice toys, but he talks funny.

I don't believe I would have made a huge issue with someone over a counterfeit $20 bill. He could have gotten it in change or even from a bank. Of course we don't know who initiated making a big deal out of it. That part hasn't been seen. The deceased was a big tough bouncer type but it seems 4 police could've gotten him up and loaded a handcuffed person. If not why not shackle his ankles and wait on more help?
You think that the counterfeit 20$ bill was his first and only brush with the law ?
Can we “speculate “ that he had outstanding warrants. Can we “speculate “ that he had a history of violence ?
We can speculate that you like the cock too....
Laffin...
All you’ capable of is speculation and getting your asss handed back to you.
Pitiful joke of a human being, you are.
Still laffin at you.
Again... still waiting... do you have any evidence to support your claim lmao...
Those cops are done, what do you expect for $35k and a GED?
Most any cop in a major city is making six figures.
Overtime is generous
😎
This is a fact. And Travis is right. If a city cop is making less than 100k a year it's because he either doesn't want to or doesn't need the money.
I would also imagine that most retirement is based on how ever many last years wages multiplied by number of years of service times some other number depending on the location. This being the case these officers are banging the overtime without a doubt.
I took the time to watch it again and the cops didn’t cause his death. He was fighting them the whole time until he had whatever medical issue he had killed him.

You really are an idiot.
The mean MPD salary is $60k-$64k, depending on which source you believe.
You don't hit 6 figures in Denver, CO until you are a detective or sergeant. Mean salary there, $70k.
Los Angeles: $63k
St Louis,.Mo: $56k
Seattle, Wa: $61k
I could go on and on. Generally speaking, and salary over about $80k falls outside of the 90th percentile.
Starting salary for a police officer here in a mid sized city is about $65k plus full benefits and goes up from there. Average is about $80k. Same with fire fighters. I know because I work with them every day. If you were to monetize the benefits, it would be like $100k without benefits.
Here in Seattle it takes all of 3 1/2 years to earn $100k, not including OT and side hustles.
Entry Level Salary Once you become a sworn police officer, the salary schedule is as follows:
Sworn Police Salary Scale
STEP HOURLY MONTHLY ANNUAL STEP 1 (Sworn Ofc.) $40.06 $6,970 $83,640 STEP 2 (6 Months) $42.96 $7,475 $89,700 STEP 3 (18 Months) $44.91 $7,814 $93,768 STEP 4 (30 Months) $46.64 $8,115 $97,380 STEP 5 (42 Months) $48.98 $8,522 $102,270 STEP 6 (54 Months) $52.45 $9,126 $109,512 Overtime and compensatory time is paid at time and 1/2, with a 3-hour minimum for court and off-duty call outs.
