So I just picked up a 1974 Ruger 77RS in 250 Savage. Gun is like new with the original rings. Is this gun extremely rare? Value? Any help is appreciated. Serial # 71-04xxx

Serial # 71-04xxx Rare-ish, more in the "not very common" IMHO, they will usually bring a bit of premium price if you are selling. But- but it's a very "niche" caliber - you have to find the right buyer. Usually the buyer also knows what a .257 Roberts is...

I dont believe I have handled a 77RS in 250-3000, does it have a light weight barrel?

It depends.... If it is a plain barrel, no warning statement or Made in 200th year of American Liberty roll marked on the barrel, it is very rare. I have a Reference of Ruger Firearms, Volume Two" printed 2/2010. As of that printing there was only one known 77RS .250 S/N 71-03698. Your SN is in that range. I have no idea on value.

Thanks guys. It’s the RS and is within a few hundred serial # of that one listed. Seems kind of rare!

I believe the RS version in 250 Savage is rare indeed. I’m a lifelong .250 Savage aficionado/hoarder and have never had the opportunity to add one of these to the accumulation (or even seen one for sale). Some Ruger collector would certainly know for certain.

I know they made the earlier 77 RS with flatbolt in 250 Savage, but I didn't know they made them beyond that early model.
Rare indeed, and a great find!
If you can, put up a picture or two...

My favorite whitetail cartridge. Very nice and I too would like to see a photo of your rifle. Thanks

Yes, rare. I’ve owned one and seen one other. I don’t know any production numbers but I’ve looked at many Rugers. Value is always hard to predict on rare things. If I saw one like yours on Gunbroker, I’d probably go to $1200 and then be outbid. You own a gem. Congratulations.
