Flying to Albuquerque in a couple weeks and then headed to Durango to catch the steam train to Silverton. On the way back stoping in Taos for a couple of nights and then onto Santa Fe. Any recommendations of places to eat or something to see out that way would be appreciated.

When in Albuquerque, eat at my place, Paisanos, Italian restaurant on Eubank. Also the Artichoke Cafe.

In Santa Fe, eat at Santa café, Geronimo‘s, the Inn at Loretta, Inn of the Anisazi, Harry’s Roadhouse

In Taos, eat at Lambert’s and Michael’s

You’ll find good food in Durango in the heart. Ask the hotel concierge

Go to Mesa Verde

Etc…

Seasons restaurant in Durango used to have the best steaks and best food. Haven’t been back in a couple of years, don’t know if it’s still open.

Be sure to visit the original Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. It’s right by the train depot.
Mesa Verde is a must see.

And Duranglers Fly Shop is one of the best in the country!

In Albuquerque if you want genuine New Mexican type food try the Beef jerky company. Chicarones are second to none and excellent chili. I agree on Taos suggestions

Enjoy your trip. From Santa Fe North through Raton and Trinidad on the Eastern slope of the Rockies is some of the more beautiful country in the US all the way through Fort Collins and into WY. Tao’s is a trip. BFE hippie communes on seasonal roads all over on the masa.

+1 on the route from Santa Fe north thru Raton and Trinidad, really beautiful country. I spent three years in Trinidad, CO and explored the surrounding region thoroughly.

Chili Line cafe in Tres Piedras on Friday and Saturday is a hoot. Short drive from Taos.

There is a Himalayan restaurant in downtown Durango where you can get real yak. The yak curry stew is amazing. How can you pass up the chance to say you've eaten yak?

(It's a lot like bison.)
