A friend is giving me a large quantity of H4895, I'm wondering about its usefulness in the two cartridges I currently load for .257 Roberts & .35 Whelen. Does anyone use this powder in those cartridges ?

I have a 75 grain VMax 257 Roberts load that is straight from the Hodgdon website. Max charge, shoots good.

Oh, and BTW, you have a good friend....

You can make it work. May not be optimal performance, but it’ll work in the Roberts, don’t have a Whelen.

My fav Roberts powders are H-100V and H-4350, both slower than 4895.

Sounds like you hit the jackpot with that free powder. It’s good stuff, works in a lot of applications.
