I wanted to put a fire ring outside my new garage/shed. So I was going to lay down a gravel pad outside the side doors. Kinda like a patio. Anyway I was thinking of the brick fire ring kits they sell at Lowe’s/Home Depot. I have a steel truck ring now, so I ain’t too fancy. Any suggestions?

It’ll cost you a bit, but live a little and get one of the smoke-free “rocket stove” burners, or fire pits. Amazon has a bunch, some of which can be upgraded with griddles, cooking grids, etc. Main draw is that they reduce and control the smoke so you don’t have to keep shifting your chair. Can’t recommend one in particular as I bought a small portable one for making coffee with a percolator.

Don’t think of it as being fancy, but rather being comfortable….

This is a big one from Solo Stove:

I looked at kits with the steel ring. I’m not sure what the purpose of the steel ring is if it’s going to be surrounded by bricks? I ended up just getting some landscaping bricks from Lowes. I did dig down a few inches into the dirt and backfilled it with gravel to keep it from settling into the ground.

I like the brick rings and have had some in past, however mine now is a combine rim, wrapped in 12ga steel that I had a local fab shop laser out last name and some mountain scenes in. It bolts to the rim and when the original rim gets hot if glows and illuminates the cutouts. I’m not sure if I have any hot pics but if ya shoot me a pm I can send you what it looks like. Rim came from scrap yard and the cut out together was under $125 a few years back. Get lots of compliments on it.

Tub from a top load washer, AKA Redneck grill. The big (22”?) Weber grate fits on top.

Old dozier track.

You posted that some years back. When I replaced my top loader I remembered your pic and yarded out the tub. Made a fire pit. It worked awesome👍

The Solo stove works well. Big enough capacity that it will burn quite awhile, not much smoke, and fairly easy to empty out.

We got the little one(think they call it Mesa) as a promotional freebie and I can see it being good for making coffee or maybe even sitting on a table during dinner, but it burns too fast and fills too quick for much more than that.

I have 1 foot of 30" pipe with a flange on it.
Sits on 4 rocks to let air get under it so there is less smoke.
Cost me a case of Budlight.

Was 3 or 4 years ago.
I felt kind of snooty buying that expensive stuff.
Way more than my $17 case of Old German.
