Hello 99 guys!
It has been a while since I came on here. I have been into revolvers the last few years,
But I bought a 99 a few weeks ago, and before I ever fired it managed to break it. It is an EG from the late 40s in 300 Savage.
I had some old ammo and spent cases, and I put a spent case in the receiver just to see if the extractor and the ejector worked. When I closed the bolt on the spent case, I think the hook on the extractor, failed to grab the rim, and when I opened it back up, the case was still in the chamber and the part I think is the ejector was out of it's slot in the receiver. To make sure you know the part I am talking about, it is the part that has a ring at one end that goes around the Magazine spool.
With the help of a friend and U tube I pulled it apart and reassembled it with out to much trouble, but the piece still is not going back into its slot in the receiver. It looks like I bent it. Can it be bent back or do I need to start looking for a new part. I would be a little ahead if I was sure exactly what to call this damaged part.
Any advice would be appreciated greatly! ..thanks ...tj3006.

I think the piece you are talking about, that is out of it's receiver slot, is the cartridge cut-off, and if it's the type that pivots on the magazine spool, then your rifle is an 1899, much earlier than 1940, I'll see if I can get up some pictures.

anyway, take the butt stock off and see if you have the bolt-stop still in place, a small flat plate screwed into the bottom tang, at the rearward travel of the bolt,

I would be shocked if this gun was much older than I said.
I could take a picture of the damaged part.

cartridge cutoff is part #14, bolt stop tab is part #30

the little nub at the back end of the cutoff serves as the ejector, as the extractor pulls the spent case back past that little nub it is kicked out of the receiver opening.

the cutoff is held in place by the bolt, with a spring pushing it from behind. If the bolt came back too far (missing bolt stop), the cutoff might be allowed to come out of it's slot,

That's the wrong diagram for an older gun. The auto cutoff looks different but it's in the ballpark.

The auto cutoff can be bent to line up without bindings. Have had to do it.

Here is an older diagram. The old auto cutoff is PN 99-410. This diagram shows both old and new cutoffs. The new one is 99H-410.

After work i will take a picture,
And see if i can post it. But I will add that it is the 1st part you see when you look down with the bolt open ,and that there is a spring behind it. And the spring looks like part 99 411. But the 99 410 part does not look like the one in the diagram. I hop i did not buy a parts gun some fool through together with miss matched parts..
Thanks for the help.!

I looked up the S# of my 99 and it shows 1951 or newer.
I think I need to get a better look at the bolt stop. It is present but perhaps it is broken allowing the bolt to move to far back and in turn causing the cartridge cutoff to come out of it slot in the receiver.

Look up the serial number of your rifle at www.savagelevers.com/serial-number-search/

It will tell you the year it was made, not just "1951 or newer".

The bolt stop was shortened at the 900K SN switch to the longer magazine for the .308 cartridges. You might have one of those or it has just been battered to death.

Check this one for sale at Numrich gunpartscorp. https://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=1000800

I took the rifle partway down and the bolt stop looks fine.
My Cartridge cutoff dos not look the ones in the schematics. I has a round piece that fits on a post to hold it in place. I does not look to be bent, but I think the spring might be the problem...tj
