As someone previously noted, there is a lot of stress when your decisions may impact your employees livelihoods. When I sold my family business after my Mother passed in 2004, the new owner fired the entire senior management team and they all blamed me for the loss of their jobs even though I had negotiated as part of the sale that if the new owner didn't retain them for one year, he would pay them their salaries for a year or the portion of the year that they were no longer employed by the company. I had offered to sell the company to the 5 senior managers, but they never made a serious effort to secure funding to buy it even though I offered to sell it to them for 25% less than what I ended up selling it for.

yeah i am self employed with employees. I find it much easier than working for someone else. A good accountant to do payroll and taxes makes it a breeze as long as you are prone to making good decisions.

Yep, and like everyone else who does, I get to set aside 40% of my net earnings for the worthless government and send them a nice fat check every quarter. Everyone should have to do that. The tax laws would be a whole lot different if they did.

Yes a number of them and another in the works. Getting too old for this anymore.

At this point preps are being done to turn them over to my three sons. They will live well.

I quit the house building business after 12 years when I owed 45% of my income to the feds/state/county/city, i was waiting for a tax-bill from my neighborhood.
My military motorcycle riding friends [Keesler/SeaBees] wondered why I was pist half the time. I explained that "I" was paying for "all" govt workers pensions and "I" didn't get a pension unless I saved for it. They now sit back getting twice as much as me.
And far worse lazy POS who has never had a job other than pumping out kids.
And still yet gov't grows bigger every year.

I remember the lows of the Obama economy and read how many hundreds & hundreds of state employees California hired. Hired with well above average pay & benefits while so many non-gov. suffered.

Technically, yes . . . but in reality, no. I was owner, CEO, CFO, HR, accounting and clerical staff in my 'business'. I was the only employee. 1200 to 1500 hours a year and still made more money per year than any 2400 hr/year job I ever had. Down side was no paid holidays, vacation or sick time. If I didn't do the work, I only had me to point the finger at. Still, I enjoyed the work and wished I had done it a long time before I did.

Founded one, exited in 2021.

Was/am a silent partner in two others. One I'm not really silent anymore because the founders have taken leaves, so, I'm more involved in daily ops. The other, my drawdown will be complete in Q4.

I will likely be completely done in the next few years.

I had a buddy that rented a house to about 15 Hondurans one time. He was a builder and used them for day labors too. When they moved out he had to rent two roll off dumpsters to hold all the trash they had thrown off of the upper deck. He said it was piled up above the second floor railing!

He did say found 3500 dollars cash laying between the top of the kitchen cabinets and the ceiling tho!

yes, dang it, several. All restaurants or food manufacturing. I can't think of many occupations that are harder. My kids are working 70 hours a week, mostly 7 days a week. Just can't find decent help. Government, local, state, feds are always the biggest problem.

Our economy should be blazing right now but Team Biden hasn't a clue what it takes to unleash our potential. Everything they do, every decision they make only exasperates the recovery and burdens commerce. Obama had the same problem, they simply do not understand what it takes to be productive.
