I'm not really back to delve into the daily going'ons here... but I will use the classifieds and use it for information like this.

I'm counting on you to keep everybody in line though...

My oldest son and daughter were just here visiting for a week and we fished for a few hours at the Horse prairie Campground area of Clark Canyon Reservoir and my daughter caught a 22" 4 3/4" Rainbow Trout and my son caught a 20 1/2" 3 1/4 pound Rainbow Trout - from shore.
Remote country this but lots of beautiful mountains and side roads to explore.
Drive through Salt Lake City during the late evening hours - it can be a lengthy ongoing horror during the days.
Enjoy your excursion and watch for speeding, erratic driving, Canadians all along I-15 - Canadians are great people but MANY of them drive like asswholes.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I've looked at them all, can't do everything but I think I have a route kinds in place.

Starvation reservoir UT is a place I want to hit... walleye/bass. I'll be stopping at different waters but this is my focused one.

So up to Kanab, Fish lake, Price, then Starvation. I can go up a different way through Moab instead I guess.

Then Vernal, Flaming gorge, Bear Lake and into Montana to Clark canyon.

First leg, no time table, but probably a week in Utah/southern Idaho.

Kent, if you return through our area, you know you're welcome to spend time with us!
Just give me a call as a heads-up!

If your going to Starvation then you better plan an extra day for Strawberry reservoir. If nothing else just for the views, you won't be disappointed.

Thought of mentioning Strawberry. Was there twice caught some cutthroats and rainbows there. The first time friend and I just pulled off the road and camped near the water, when I was a bachelor in the late 70s. Next time took family and used the campground. Betting primitive camping is no longer allowed.

There is a very nice grass covered campground at the Dent Bridge on Dworshak Reservoir.
There were several miles of dirt road getting there, it's been a few years since I was there. it was an excellent dirt road then.
Someone local could undoubtedly tell you

I'm figuring 3 or 4 days in that area. No schedule, just leave when I'm ready.

There are still a bunch of places around there to camp for free, plenty of primitive also.

Looking at dent campgroundbeyond the bridge. 20 bucks a night for hookups, 14 day limit.

I'm not looking for organized campgrounds per say but that's a heck of a deal.

Dent acres is where I plan to end up, I can range out from there if I want. Hit some Montana spots before that.

Stop in Lolo Sporting Goods in Lewiston,
They used to sell CCI made bullets by the pound, that ended years ago but it's still a cool old gunshop.

Kent, do a little research on Dworshak reservoir. I never managed to get up there but friends in the area told me the smallmouth fishing can be fantastic. With some big ones.

https://idfg.idaho.gov/press/smallmouth-bass-state-record-falls-once-more

Not sure about the Clearwater, but the Snake in that area around Lewiston and above holds smallies and such too.

Oh ya, I'm a smallie fisherman!

Kent

When you’re cruising down Hwy 12 along the Clearwater give me a honk at mm 81. We catch plenty of smallies there, many in the 2lb range.

They pull out some pretty nice ones up above Dworshak, seems like the state record came from there.

This is killing me hearing about smallmouths! I catch some at Roosevelt Lake and would love to get to Idaho and fish for them exclusively again. Kent you are going to have a blast!

I never visited Dworshak Reservoir but after reading the link below, they say there are smallies AND Kokanee it would be on my list when I get up that way again. Love the mix of trolling for kokanee then casting for smallies.

Before the algae killed all the small mouth at Apache we caught thousands over the years.

Caught lots up at Willow springs. G&F shock the lake every spring to get as many out before stocking tiger trout, still some left every year but not the great fishery it once was.

The main reason I'm targeting Starvation reservoir is smallmouth and then walleye.
