Another plus is ""you can work on it yourself"" that's a big reason why vehicles like this Toyota are holding their value.
Stealerships charging $100 - $150hr. for crap work.

I spent 6 hours yesterday changing out the passenger side [4] spark plugs/[4] coils + a mild cleaning on the fuel injectors. 20+ years old F-150 5.4. absolute PITA to maintain. The drivers side will take more time- remove air-box - power steering reservoir -egr plumbing -pvc -fuel line - other stuff that I don't even know what it is.

What else could you get for $3500 that would be equivalent for miles and dependability?

Ain't that the truth. Before I bought my Toyota,I have always driven Ford pickups. My last one was a 1997.I absolutely hated that half the engine was stuffed under the fire wall.Spark plugs were a PITA ,especially the rear passenger side.Never again,Ford lost me.I really didn't like their "Better Ideas".At 22yrs old,I can get more money for my Toyota than I could get for any of my five year old Fords.I can change the oil and spark plugs in 30 minutes on my V-8 Tundra. It must really be a nightmare to be a mechanic on some of these hard to work on vehicles.A simple job should be just that,a simple job. When you design a vehicle to make everything difficult to work on,it's total BS in my opinion.

This.

Here under 2k won't buy anything that runs. It will have major damage until you get to 3k.

I look at miles and overall condition/maintenance a lot more than I do year. That truck should have years and years of low cost use ahead of it. Either that or your 16 year will destroy it doing teenager stuff😂

I'd snap it up now.

And keep it for myself. Get the teenager something that looks and runs like something a teenager would drive, as your nice vehicle will end up looking like that in short order.

If I had that around here, it would be my going to the Big Town ride when the wife needs the RAV4 that day, and use it around here for going and getting supplies in town, like bales of straw, rolls of fencing and such. Retire the 23 year old Tacoma to hunting and fishing duties only.

Wish I had never sold the 86 Toyota 2wd we had for years. Decided to help out an acquaintance when I picked up the Tacoma.

Based on being in ID, that is probably not worth $3500.

Were it me for what you are planning on doing with it, I would consider $2250 to be fair. ANd may be willing to pay up to $2500 - 2700.

Take that thing south and it's probably worth $3500 all day long. But in ID, don't think so.

I sold my ‘87 4x4 with 90,000 miles about 3 months ago for 16k.
If you need a small truck it’s a pretty good buy I think.
Good luck,

'Bout 6 yrs ago...

Came across a local.......one owner......'91 pickup.........3.0L V6 ( cry) & 4x4 & manual

Guy said it needed a fuel pump...been sittin' for 4 yrs----------180K miles

He says.........I want $500 & not a penny less...OK...couldn't get in my pocket fast enough...yes clean UT title

Towed it to my mechanic bud's place...Dumped $1900 into it....tires/wheels included...all the baseline items

G/son from AZ came up & drove it 9 hrs home...so we had $2400 in it

92 Toy w/ 80K for $3500? In a heartbeat, all day, any day. Unless maybe it has AT.

At 80K, I would replace the clutch and turn the flywheel, just because. I would replace the Timing chain guides, and take a good look at the chains while I was in there.

THEN, the truck should run forever.

But if it does not, Jasper builds 22RE engines with a 50,000 mi/five year warranty. I do not think I have ever seen a Toyota five speed trans fail, And I have driven many of them well beyond 300K.

He bought it a about 2 years ago from our other neighbors who moved here from northern California. It doesn't have any rust and they say it drives great.

My wife is already saying no but I know those old 2.4 liter Toyota 4 cylinders go for ever. My oldest will be able to drive in 3 years and wants to mow lawns in the summer so I think.its the perfect truck for that. It's hard to find book values on a truck that old but I think it's a deal at $3500. I'm going to go drive it tomorrow. Does it sound like a deal?

If I was close to you, I'd buy it, and I don't even need a truck! Those are 300,000 miles vehicles if you take basic care of them. I had a buddy that commuted that put 360,000+ on his, and he sold it because it got too ugly for his wife! It was still going.

I went and checked it out tonight. It actually has 100,000 miles on it not 80k. It is very clean though with just a few smaller dings on it. It has a plastic bed liner in it and from what I could see under it. Interior is good under the aftermarket seat cover.

It's a real basic model and doesn't even have air but it does also come with the original wheels with another set of tires on it. It has some basic aftermarket aluminum rims in it now. My 12 year old boy likes it even though he's 3 years from learning to drive it. My wife thinks we have too many vehicles already but I'm trying to convince her we need one with a standard transmission for the kids to learn on. The battery was completely dead so my neighbor put a charger on it so I can drive it later. I'm going to offer him $3000.

Bb, is it a 4 speed?

I bought my Grandpas Toyota base model, am/fm radio, no a/c, "4 speed" not 5. 90-91? model. Back in 1996 drove it daily when I was building houses - sold it for $1500 more than I paid.

I've been on the lookout for one of the last model years 'standard cab' 4x4 , 2011-2015, >hard to find a nice one.

Good Luck

These lowball prices are funny. It is going to cost me 1500 just to fix the ac in my daughter's car (a 2010 Ford Focus with 100k, we just bought for 3400). 3500 is small beans for a running vehicle.
